Welcome to Valdez! Levitation 49 is the permitted commercial operator of four state park units in Valdez: Worthington Glacier State Recreation Site and Blueberry Lake Campground on Thompson Pass as well as the 10-mile Shoup Trail and three public use cabins in Shoup Bay State Marine Park.
More information about Shoup Bay Cabins and Blueberry Lake Campground can be found by proceeding directly to the booking engine by clicking this link: Shoup Bay Cabins. Campsites at Blueberry Lake are first come, first served; $20 night.
SHOUP CABINS. The most popular way to access the cabins is by kayak or boat. But this summer we're proud to announce, "No kayak, no problem!" The overland route to Shoup Cabins was re-opened effective June 22, 2017. Now you can hike the 10-mile singletrack trail from Valdez to the Moraine and Kittiwake public use cabins in Shoup Bay State Marine Park or visa versa of course. The trail is brushed out and improvements have been made to manmade trail features to make for safer travel. This is still a demanding trail. While the first three miles to Gold Creek are more family-friendly the second section from Gold Creek to Shoup Bay is best tackled by experienced hikers. Do take the usual Alaska camping essentials: bear spray and bug spray and wear layers to be ready for whatever whimsical weather Mother Nature decides to throw at you. McAllister cabin, at the mouth of Shoup Bay is accessible only by boat.
BLUEBERRY CAMPGROUND: We will honor reservations of those who made them for select sites at Blueberry Lake during Summer 2017 however we are temporarily discontinuing accepting advance reservations until we can better staff for on-site reservation management.
Online reservations are now available for Shoup Cabins: McAllister, Moraine and Kittiwake
We recommend the following Water Taxi Service for Shoup Cabins

Service may also be provided by
kayaking outfitters Pangaea Adventures, Anadyr Adventures and helitour operator Vertical Solutions

An Important Word about Valdez Weather & Weather Forecasts . . .
Valdez weather reports are notoriously innacurate. Any forecast further than three days out should not be considered reliable. There are also an infinite number of microclimates in the area meaning weather in town can be different than in the sound and can be different than Thompson Pass. Be suspicious of weather reports that call for days or weeks on end of rain; it may mean it's only going to be gray and sprinkly intermittently or may mean a steady rain. It's impossible to know unless you're here so simply plan accordingly. Bring layers, rain gear and enjoy Mother Nature in all her moods and glory.
